Care of your quilt
Proper care of your quilt, whether bed sized or wall sized, can ensure that the quilt will be a family heirloom passed down through the generations. Wall quilts can generally be vacuumed or fluffed in the dryer with cool air to remove the dust. Lap quilts and bed quilts tend to get used more. Once you have checked the colorfastness of the fabrics, you can wash my quilts in your washing machine on gentle cycle using warm water and a non-detergent soap such as Orvus Paste or Ivory Flakes. Partially dry the quilt in your dryer on warm or low setting and set out on a drying rack to finish drying. Avoid direct sunlight on your quilt and store your quilts in a cool and dry setting covered with a cotton sheet or pillowcase. AVOID using plastic bags to store your quilts.
